The Red Album by Weezer

The new Weezer album is getting mixed press. I think I get why that is, but I do think Rivers has a point when he eludes to the press kinda having a thing against him. Clearly publications like Pitchfork (which, to me anyway, seems more like an excuse for their folks to exercise their creative writing skills than it does an outlet for reviewing and sharing music) don’t, and never have, “gotten” Weezer.

The Red Album has issues, primary that the last four songs don’t sound much like Weezer at all, but it’s still pretty darn good and if you loop those four songs off (no wonder only the first 8 leaked) it’s easily the best stuff we’ve had from Weezer since The Blue Album.

The Bottom Line

Overall I’d say I’m really happy with it and there are a few tracks that I think are great. When taken as a whole I guess I’d probably give it a 6.5 or so out of 10, but, again, some of the good ‘uns make up for the bad.
