SXSW HYPE: White Lies

I’m going to try to do a post every other day or so to talk about a band I’m excited to see at SXSW. The should be short posts as most of these bands I’ll be talking about I don’t know much about. (Wow, that was an awkwardly worded sentence. Moving on.) First up: White Lies, an indie, post-punk, dance/rock band from London.

That’s right dance/rock! Think Franz Ferdinand, Bloc Party and the like. A few years back I discovered a fairly unknown dance/rock band at SXSW; The Sunshine Underground, and really enjoyed a couple of shows during SXSW week. The year before that it was Bloc Party, who I saw three times in as many days.

I don’t know much about White Lies, but there does seem to be a bit of hype behind them. Their album To Lose My Life was released in the UK back in January and I’m not sure when it comes out here in the US. I was able to get ahold of a few of their tracks and really enjoy them. Check out “Death” here and if you’re curious, they’ve got a good video for it over at YouTube (I’d have embedded it here, but they aren’t allowing that for some stupid reason.) They’re polished, but show enough range and diversity to make me think these guys will put on a really fun show.

The Bottom Line

White Lies play 7:40 pm Saturday, March 21st at Stubb’s (801 Red River St).
