SXSW HYPE: The Thermals

I’m pretty sure that The Thermals are #1 on my must see list this year. I’ve been a huge, huge fan for a long time and have never seen them preform live.

The Thermals are quirky, unique and amazingly catchy. They’re one of those bands that, at first listen, you might find slightly off-center and awkward, but as you make your way through their albums (which have a bit of concept to them and should be listened to in order and as a whole) you find that they creep in, getting stuck in those little places between every day thoughts in your head.

In my mind they’re one of the best bands to come around in the last 10 years or so as they bring to the table everything that makes a great band and they do it in such a way as to be like nothing else I’ve heard before. Awesome. I can’t say enough, really, so I won’t.

Here’s the video for “Returning to The Fold” and truly amazing song and one of my favorites (among many) by them. I still get chills listening to it. If you’ve never heard them, check it out.

The Bottom Line

The Thermals play the Force Field PR and Terrorbird Media party (which looks awesome) asometime between 12:00-6:00 pm, Wednesday, March 18th at Club de Ville (900 Red River St), 10:00 pm, Thursday, March 19th at Red Eyed Fly (715 Red River St), Friday, March 20th at 3:30 pm at Club de Ville (900 Red River St) and Rachael Ray’s thing sometime between 12:00-6:00 pm, Saturday, March 21st at Maggie Mae’s (323 E 6th St).
