SXSW HYPE: The Features

The Features are my latest favorite band. They’ve been around for a long time, but I’ve only recently been introduced to them, via the most awesome radio station in the history of earth KEXP, who, by the way, is having a donation drive right now and deserves some love.

About a week ago I ordered Some Kind Of Salvation off The Features web site, partly because I wanted the awesome t-shirt that came with it. I was pleasantly surprised, both by the shirt and the album. Really awesome on both counts. So, what do they sound like? Well, they’re good! I’d describe them as pretty straight-forward indie rock with a little tiny bit of a Urban Outfitters/hipster bent that’s balanced well by horns, blues and a bit of Mardi Gras. I’m also getting a bit of a 60’s blues/rock vibe on a few of the tracks, good stuff. I can imagine them putting on a really fun show, and their stuff is diverse enough to have a little something for everyone.
