SXSW HYPE: Asylum Street Spankers

Sarah introduced me to Austin natives Asylum Street Spankers just after she found out they were playing SXSW and they rocketed to the top of my must see list.

At first they struck me as a gimmick band; singing raunchy bluegrass tunes to make the crowd laugh, but upon further listen I found they’re actually pretty good. Sure, they’ve got a keen eye for the performance, and that’s great, but they can play and sing too. Regardless, they’re talented, funny, witty and are a lock for an entertaining show. And they’re a great fit for the 12 am Saturday night slot! But don’t take my word for it, here’s a video.

The Bottom Line

The Asylum Street Spankers play 12:00 am Sunday (Saturday night) at Momo’s (618 W 6th St).
