SXSW HYPE: Asobi Seksu

Asobi Seksu is one of the bands I’m most excited to see at SXSW this year. Listening to their albums, they might seem a bit mellow, but I’ve heard enough amazing reviews, and watched enough video to know they’ll be awesome live. I sort of expect a kind of mini Radiohead kind of experience. But, then again, maybe I’m building it up.

Asobi Seksu (Japaneese for “Casual Sex”) is a spacy, shoegaze, noise-popish band from New York. They’ve been around for a while now and have just released a new album, Hush, which I’ve yet to pick up. I’m a big fan of their previous release Citrus which came out a few years back. I still listen to it quite a bit. To give you an idea of what they might be live, I’ve found a video of them doing one of my favorite songs of theirs, “New Years”. It’s not the greatest quality, but worth checking out.

The Bottom Line

Asobi Seksu plays Saturday, March 21st at 1:00 am (Friday night) at Habana Calle 6 Patio (709 E 6th St) and again 2:30 pm Saturday, March 21st at the Cedar Street Courtyard (208 W 4th St).
