Record Review

Pretty.Odd by Panic At The Disco
So, you know when you walk in to an ice cream store and order a really big banana split that’s probably way too much for you to eat and after a few bites you already feel a bit full but it tastes so good you keep eating until it’s all done and then you hate yourself?
Pretty.Odd, the latest album by Panic At The Disco, is kind of like that. Without the hating yourself at the end.
Both Rolling Stone and Paste gave fairly glowing reviews, each comparing this PATD effort to something the Beatles would do were they to make a record in 2008. Based on those reviews I very reluctantly gave it a spin, and I was hooked almost instantly and all the way through until the end.
Put simply; it’s an amazingly diverse, accessible and abundantly listenable pop/rock record unlike much of what we’ve been hearing.
The Bottom Line
Well, it sounds like Panic At The Disco, but not the Panic At The Disco you expect it to sound like. Also, it really reminded me quite a bit of 1990’s Btitpop rockers Gene and that’s really, really cool.
