Mixtape Seven - Richmond Beach
This one is for Sarah who wanted a bit of 80’s music education. Oh and for Shorewood Highschool. I tried to get a decent mix of styles in here. I went through fazes during the 80’s, mostly into dance-type stuff as I was a DJ, but I had my moments with other styles as well. I also tried to stick to things you might not have heard on the radio every day. Enjoy.
Richmond Beach (Retired)
- Dio – A Rainbow in The Dark. Let’s kick it off with some metal, shall we?
- Metallica – Creeping Death. My favorite Metallica song. I listened to them a whole lot back in the 80s.
- R.E.M – Orange Crush. I was a big fan of R.E.M. back in their early days.
- The Smiths – Panic. One of the more upbeat songs from Morrissey and co.
- Oingo Boingo – Just Another Day. Oingo Boingo was an 80’s mainstay. If you wanted fun, you looked to them.
- Pet Shop Boys – In The Night. I loved these guys. They just kept putting out good dance music.
- Ciao Felinni – Noche A Bahia (12’‘ version). Ah… Italo Disco. This was what you’d hear in the clubs, well, if you were cool like me and had a fake ID. Oh and on the mix tapes I’d make for the cheerleaders; they loved this shit.
- Alexander Robotnick – Problemes D’amour. More Italo Disco. This was one of my favorites. This song has been sampled a whole lot since it came out, so you might recognize parts of it. Also, this version is clearly off a fuzzy record, which is awesome.
- New Order – Bizarre Love Triangle. New Order might be my all time favorite band and this song reminds me of riding the bus up to the mountain to ski.
- Siouxsie and the Banshees – Happy House. I was pretty into goth back then, so I had to put a little taste on here.
- Cabaret Voltaire – Here To Go. It took me ages to find the album from which this song came. Code was one of their best but, for some reason, hard to find.
- The Cure – A Forest (Live). My favorite version of my favorite Cure song.
- The Specials – Ghost Town. Wrapping it up with some fun. Man, I love The Specials.
