Mixtape Five - Kansas City

This one’s for Jeff Croft because he likes hip-hop, soul and your mama jokes.

Kansas City (This mixtape has been retired.)

  • Genius – 4th Chamber. Liquid Swords was always my favorite Wu-Tang album.
  • Aesop Rock – Daylight. I think that Aesop Rock is the best rapper of all time. Seriously.
  • Jurassic 5 – Jayou. I’ll never forget when I first heard this song. It was at a party in a ski lodge and I was all over the DJ for details about 1 minute in.
  • Why? – Good Friday. This song cracks me up.
  • The Pharcyde – Yo Mama. A classic.
  • Mos Def & Talib Kweli – Definition. What ever happened to that followup album?
  • Eric B & Rakim – Paid In Full (Coldcut Remix). The song and beat that defined an ERA in Hip Hop and featuring one of the greats; Rakim.
  • Ozomatli – Cut Chemist Suite. One of the best live acts ever. Just saw them last weekend with Chali2na in tow. As fun as you’d expect.
  • Atmosphere – Hold Mine feat. Blueprint, Aesop Rock, Eyedea & Illogic. Some indie greats on display. Great cut.
  • Aesop Rock – No Regrets. You know I love Aesop Rock. One of the most well written songs I’ve ever heard.
  • Swollen Members – Breath (feat. Nelly Furtado). Two of my guilty pleasures unite. Canada FTW.
  • Style Council – My Ever Changing Moods. White guy soul. Nobody does it better than Paul Weller.
  • Handsome Boy Modeling School – The Truth. Love this downtempo jam.
  • Outkast – Spottieottiedopaliscious. For bed time. Damn, damn, damn, damn…
