Mix Tape Ten - Boulder
What a few weeks it was at SXSW 2009! So many good friends and such great music! I’m back and I’m ready to share some new stuff with you. Some of which was discovered in Austin, others in much less exciting means…like the radio and blogs. This one is dedicated to the place where I was born, Boulder, CO.
Boulder (Retired)
- The Decemberists – The Wanting Comes In Waves / Repaid. I’ve seen The Decemberists a few times, but boy oh boy did they ever represent at SXSW. Their new rock opera The Hazards of Love is simply amazing.
- Beirut – La Llorona. Love the horns on this one.
- Metric – Help I’m Alive. The new Metric rocks. I’ve only listened a few times, but I’m loving it so far.
- Japandroids – Young Hearts Spark Fire. Discovered these guys via The Sasquatch Festival music player. Good stuff.
- Mt. St. Helens Vietnam Band – Albatross, Albatross, Albatross. Another band playing Sasquatch, these guys are kind of like a mix between White Stripes and Foals. Really good.
- New Found Glory – Truck Stop Blues. I admit, I like New Found Glory quite a bit. Sue me.
- Street Sweeper – Clap for the Killers. Hell yes! The return of the rock/rap combo, this time with greats Tom Morrello and Boots Riley from The Coup!
- DJ Signify – Low Tide (feat. Aesop Rock). I’m a huge fan of Aesop Rock and his appearance on DJ Signify’s Of Cities is the highlight of a pretty good album.
- Army Navy – Snakes of Hawaii. It took me awhile to warm up to Army Navy, but for some reason lately I keep coming back to them.
- Harlem Shakes – Strictly Game. Saw these guys at SXSW (thanks Morgan) and they’re awesome.
- White Lies – To Lose My Life. One of my favorite shows during SXSW. White Lies are a great band worth watching.
- Here We Go Magic – Only Pieces. Been hearing this quite a bit on KEXP. Good stuff.
- Jon McKiel – War On You. Really nice singer/songwriter in the vein of Jack Johnson or Pete Yorn.
- Sourhaze – Neon Ebb. From my friend Elliot. I’m really digging this EP and can’t wait for more.
- Asobi Seksu – Layers. So bummed I missed them at SXSW. Loving the new album though.
- Bruno Coulais – The Party. Still loving the Coraline soundtrack. Such good stuff.
