Get Guilty by A. C. Newman
New Pornographers frontman A. C. Newman’s new album is light, fun and a perfect example of good old-fashioned power pop.
I bought Get Guilty about a week or so ago and keep coming back to it. I’m a big fan of New Pornographers so I had a pretty good idea I’d like it. Newman’s vocals and aural aesthetics are clearly a hugh part of the Pornographer’s sound. A sounds I really enjoy. Newman is a brilliant pop song craftsman and just about every song on Guilty reflects that. There aren’t any duds here, just shades of goodness.
If anything negative can be said about Get Guilty it’s that all the songs are enjoyable enough they’re a bit hard to compare.
The Bottom Line
If you like New Pornographers you’ll probably really enjoy Get Guilty. It’s a great pop record; easy to listen to, fun and just diverse enough to not get old too quickly. RIYL: New Pornographers, Cloud Cult, Destroyer, Queen
