Coraline Soundtrack by Bruno Coulais

I’m not a big “official” soundtrack guy, but I was drawn in by how great the music was the first time I saw Coraline so I checked it out. And it’s great. Really great, and surprisingly listenable for a soundtrack.

Coraline was well done is so many ways; Neil Gaiman’s original story, the for-film adaptation and direction by Henry Selick, the sets, the voice acting (I can still hear Dakota Fanning saying, “It’s a traaap!”) and all the beautiful artwork in the movie made it a classic instantly in my mind. The music was no exception; it’s excellent. It fits the mood of each scene perfectly and, again, translates surprisingly well to non-movie listening. I really love “Exploration” and all the variations of that bit. And the “Other Father Song” by John Linnell from They Might Be Giants is so damn catchy.

The Bottom Line

The Coraline Soundtrack by Bruno Coulais is really fun and surprisingly listenable.
