June 2010 Mixtape

It’s been a little while, I think since SXSW, since I posted a mix. A whole lot of great music has come along since then, much of it by artists I know and love. Here, then, is a few of my recent favorites.

Post SXSW Mix

SXSW 2010 was great as usual and, as usual, I saw some great shows and discovered a few great new bands. In addition to all the good stuff coming out of SXSW, I thought I’d share with you a few other great tracks I’ve come across lately.

SXSW 2010 Mix

I thought I’d take a few minutes and create a mix of some of the bands I’m looking forward to seeing this year at SXSW.

Industrial Mix

So I went and dug up some old industrial tracks and have provided them to your here in classic (if pretty rough) dance-mix format. Most of this stuff is actually what I’d technically call “post-industrial” but I think it does a pretty good job of covering the genre. I hope you’ll forgive some of the inexpert mixes and cuts. It’s been years since I’ve listened to most of this stuff, let alone tried to mix it, and while Djay is a great piece of software, I’m used to physical knobs and sliders (that’s what she said) and made a few ham-fisted transitions in there.

Mixtape - South Park

Wow, it’s been a long time, hasn’t it? I’ve not posted at all, let alone worked up a mix tape! Long story short, I moved to SF and life’s been a whirlwind the last few months. Still, in that time a lot of good music’s come out. Here are a few of my recent favorites.

Take and Tape Nine

I’ve been wanting to get back to making mix tapes and I’ve also found myself missing the actual mixing. I don’t have records, turntables and a mixer anymore, but I do have Garageband! So, it’s back to the fade mixes like I used to do, enjoy!

Mixtape Eleven - San Francisco

Headed to San Fran for a spring fling. There will be lots of fun and dancing and other frivolities! And this, my marvelous friends, this is our soundtrack.

Mix Tape Ten - Boulder

What a few weeks it was at SXSW 2009! So many good friends and such great music! I’m back and I’m ready to share some new stuff with you. Some of which was discovered in Austin, others in much less exciting means…like the radio and blogs. This one is dedicated to the place where I was born, Boulder, CO.

Mix Tape Nine - Austin

SXSW is a very short month away and I’ve been going through the schedules and noting bands I’d like to see. Of course half the fun of SXSW is discovering new bands, but you’ve got to start somewhere. Here’s a mix of some of the bands I’m most looking forward to seeing, you’ll excuse the lack of commentary this time I hope!

Mixtape Eight - Denver

I’m headed out to Web Directions North in Denver next week, with a bonus trip up to Breckenridge as well. So this one is for the Rockies!

Mixtape Seven - Richmond Beach

This one is for Sarah who wanted a bit of 80’s music education. Oh and for Shorewood Highschool. I tried to get a decent mix of styles in here. I went through fazes during the 80’s, mostly into dance-type stuff as I was a DJ, but I had my moments with other styles as well. I also tried to stick to things you might not have heard on the radio every day. Enjoy.

Mixtape Two - The Twin Cities

This one goes out to one of my favorite bands, The Hold Steady and the lovely and talented Martine who did such a great job helping me with the coding of this, and the other Bottom Line sites (which are coming soon.)

Mixtape One - Ballard

Alright y’all, here is the first of what I hope to be many mixtapes. I’m using the awesome Opentape and I’m loving how it’s working so far. These will be up for about a week and then usually replaced with a new one. I hope that doesn’t cause too much confusion. The idea with these is that I’ll be theming them and naming based on places I’ve been, or where I’m at, or places I’d like to go. Or something. I’ll also try and keep the variety high and throw in a few oldies every once in awhile.
